Recent filehosting issues and future of this site...

As most of you probably already know it, last week left us witnesses of one of the biggest 1-click filehosters turmoil in their history. Megaupload has been shut down, and two other major players, Filesonic and Fileserve, which unfortunately I have been using for last couple of months, essentially stopped their services, by not allowing sharing the files with anyone but original uploader and closing account due to copyright infrigements.

It lefts site's latest submissions virtually useless, as Filesonic main links are not working, additional Fileserve mirror files neither, with Hotfile links in place. In that situation none of these movies can be fully downloaded and only working sets are either Hotfile or Rapidshare links, where existing and not removed before.

As the situation is tense and future uncertain, for the time being, there will be no new submissions or any links replacements, until the dust settles and more light is shed on the whole situation. If situation gets cleared and filehosters get to the terms, I will make further decisions on future of this project, accordingly to the situation.

Description: The owner of an important newspaper Austin Spencer opposes to the capital punishment and particularly to the prosecutor Roy Thompson, who has just succeeded in a trial based on circumstantial evidences. They decide to hide the truth from Austin's daughter Susan since she could not support the situation under stress. When the jury withdraws from the court in the end of the trial to give the sentence, Austin takes the evidences that prove the innocence of Tom from his safe, but has a car accident and dies. Tom is sentenced to death penalty and tries to convince Susan of his innocence as his last hope.

and soundtrack - Jean-Paul Rappeneau, a jazz fan and Malle's assistant at the time, suggested asking Miles Davis to create the film's soundtrack - possibly inspired by the Modern Jazz Quartet's recording for Roger Vadim's Sait-on jamais (Does One Ever Know), released a few months earlier in 1957.

Miles was booked to perform at the Club St-Germain in Paris for November 1957. Rappeneau introduced him to Malle, and Miles agreed to record the music after attending a private screening. On December 4, he brought his four sidemen to the Le Poste Parisien recording studio without having had them prepare anything. Miles only gave the musicians a few rudimentary harmonic sequences he had assembled in his hotel room, and, once the plot was explained, the band improvised without any precomposed theme, while edited loops of the musically relevant film sequences were projected in the background. Jazz Track, an album that contains ten songs from this soundtrack, received a 1960 Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Performance, Solo or Small Group.

Dual audio track information

This movie contains two audio tracks, one is original English, and the other is additional audio commentary by Peter Bogdanovich with recorded excepts of Ford, Wayne and Stewart. You can use VLC Player to easily choose between any of audio tracks or you can use VirtualDub to get rid of any of audio tracks by following these steps:

1. Download Virtualdub from that WWW address:

2. Download your version, unzip the files, start the program by running VirtualDub.exe

3. From “File” tab choose “Open video file” and find your dual audio file on your HDD (or you can simply drag and drop movie file into program window)

4. If any warning window pops up, just click on “OK”

5. From “Video” tab choose “Direct stream copy” option (very important, do not miss that step)

6. From “Audio” tab choose which audio stream you want to use, usually English is Stream 1, and commentary is on Stream 2, but to be 100 % sure use preview option that VD provides by clicking on “Play” button on the butttom of program window when video file is loaded. Of course you can get rid of original audio and save the file with commentary that way too, just by choosing other stream.

7. From “File” tab choose “Save AVI file”, put movie name and choose destination folder and then click on OK. Program will start its job after no more than 2 minutes your only one audio track movie should be ready.

It's New Year's Eve and they are summoned to dinner at Nora's elderly, and very aristocratic, family. There they find that cousin Thelma's husband Charles has been missing for three days. Nick reluctantly agrees to look for him but the case takes a twist when Charles is shot and Thelma is accused of murder. Several other murders occur but eventually Nick gathers everyone into the same room to reveal the identity of the killer.

Description: The Belgian detective Hercule Poirot boards the Orient Express. One of the passengers requests his protection, but Poirot declines. The next day the passenger is found dead in his compartment and Poirot is asked to solve the case. The train is forced to stop due to a snow drift blocking the tracks. This gives him a few hours to figure out the murderer's identity before the local police take over the investigation. During his investigation, Poirot discovers that many of the passengers have some connection to a 5 year old case where an infant was kidnapped and murdered in which the mastermind escaped prosecution. This movie contains two audio tracks, one is original English, and the other is audio commentary by Sturges scholars James Harvey, Diane Jacobs and Brian Henderson. You can use VLC Player to easily choose between any of audio tracks or you can use VirtualDub to get rid of any of audio tracks by following these steps:

1. Download Virtualdub from that WWW address:

2. Download your version, unzip the files, start the program by running VirtualDub.exe

3. From “File” tab choose “Open video file” and find your dual audio file on your HDD (or you can simply drag and drop movie file into program window)

For some strange reason all of recent upgrades got multiple CRC errors and therefore users are not able to extract fileses sucessfully.

I dont know what might be the reason, maybe RARing process while using Winrar or too fast speed while burning files to DVDs, but all of these latest upgraded files have been deleted and will be re-uploaded in near future.

1. Due to recent changes in RS premium packages and stopping points system I am thinking of switching to other host in a couple of weeks, probably just before end of August, when it is time to renew hosting plan and domain registration for .info site. Right now the new system is very inconvenient to use, and in the light of recent changes my premium account will expire in a couple of months and I do not intend to pay for it, when I was using it for free for more than 3 years. Also many people asked for some changes in file hosting, so now might be the good time for it. For that moment I got like 10 movies ready and uploaded to RS, so next 5-6 will be like "waiting for people nad RS response" time and eventual changes wouldnt be fast, but one day it may change

If you wanna uninterrupted services on both sites, please consider making small Paypal donation toward hosting plan renewal, I need little more than 70 $ to be on the safe side, and the time is middle August to finish. It would be nice if at least 3 people buy one of the software listed on the site, as that would help a lot. After almost 3 years and hundreds of hours spent on both sites your help is crucial

I also need some advice on protecting some of the links from being reported, I tried several services, but it doesnt work too well, and some little prank is doing quite good job on reporting the files, especially Alfred Hitchcock Presents episodes, which prevents me from re-uploading and updating them now as the job is pointless. I know together we could figure out the good solution...Maybe someone has access to good fast FTP server, on which the files would be more safe?

5. As previously stated my online activity is very limited these days, so any links re-uploading, taking care of some little adjustments, responding to comments takes much more time than usual, as well as new movies being posted in a week intervals. And please remember, asking "What is the password?", "Help I cant extract the files, password is wrong" when over 500 people downloaded witout any problems doesnt help either...In my free time I will try to put all the questions and answers in one place on "FAQ/Help/Problem resolving" sub-site but when it is finally done, any of the questions or comments like that will be ignored

6. RS is changing its services for a 1000th time in last years and I dont like that, but for those of you that dont have premium accounts, I used accumulated points and made 5 premium accounts, before latest changes they would be regular 30 days account, now thing changed, so the time of account validity depends on amount of data downloaded and your choice of data packet used, but premium features are still there

To get one of these accounts, send me a screenshot of any of Google Ad-sense advertisements being clicked by you, your country of origin and name/nickname and then I will choose 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 11th mail sent to onlyoldmovies [at] hotmail.com after 7 PM Central European time, which is in little more than 3 and a half of hour from this post being published.

I am going to fly to United Kingdom on Monday to work there, yes, I know, again, just hope this time it will be better than last year

I am taking all my movies with me, but not sure if I will be able to upload there, and what my internet access will be there, right now I got 4-5 movies ready to post, I will post them using "future posts" function from Wordpress so the movies will first appear on www.onlyoldmovies.info and then maybe I will add them manually to www.onlyoldmovies.blogspot.com whenever I got some time as Blogger doesn't support that function.

Beside that it may happen that my online activity and frequency of posting new movies will be reduced significantly, also there will be no subtitles or samples available for them as it takes too much time

I will let you all know more details when I get there next week, let's hope everything goes smooth

1. One of my users commented on my last Alfred Hitchcock Presents post, that RS links were deleted by me, not reported and deleted by RS itself...Well, that user doesnt understand what happens when files are reported: once reported and marked by RS and infriging copyrights, they are online for next 7 for possible "further investigation", but as I cant do anything to get them back, I prefer to delete them from my acount first, that way when you click on download link it may say that the files was deleted by original uploader, but why should I do that?

2. It's May now, the month that WWII ended, so it is time to post two WWII war movies, of which one will be Polish and the second German, first one tomorrow, next in about 6-8 days after that

On the ledge, Carl seems willing to talk only to the local beat cop, Officer Barrett who goes out on the ledge to talk Carl into stepping back into the room. Both a movie genre and cinematic movement, film noir has one of the highest batting averages of any genre. Because of the core elements (duality, normal people being thrust into crime, moral grays), there are few noirs that aren't interesting, with the photography (influenced by German expressionism, but often done bare due to budget constraints) almost always fascinating. There's more to be gleaned about the genre and its high points in 1995's "A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese through American Movies" and reading Alain Silver and Elizabeth Ward's "Film Noir: An Encyclopedic Reference to the American Style" is entirely more thorough — but for a clip show, "Film Noir: Bringing Darkness to Light" is entertaining enough, even if it seems made up of questions asked on downtime from other DVD documentaries. It opens with James Ellroy, who says "Here's what film noir is to me. It's a righteous, generically American film movement that went from 1945 to 1958 and exposited one great theme. And that theme is: You're fuc...d." From there the interviewees range from commentators on other Warner DVDs (including DVD Savant Glenn Erickson), to filmmakers like Christopher Nolan, Paul Schrader, Brian Hegeland, Christopher McQuarrie, and many of the crew associated with both The Usual Suspects and Sin City (including Frank Miller and Michael Madsen). The one interesting thing this 67-min. doc dwells on (something that noir historians can still argue about) is the inception of the genre. There are mentions made that it started with Lang's German film M, or in 1940 with the Peter Lorre-staring The Stranger on the Third Floor, while anther interpretation is that noir was the natural cinematic reaction to the returning soldiers of World War II and the grief and ennui that resulted, as the genre fed on (at its best) an existentialism and fatalism that comes from being close to death.

The best of Film Noir (2009)

As movie presenter, learned writer and broadcaster Matthew Sweet notes, the only good thing about the Nazi occupation of Europe was that it forced several exceptionally skilled actors, writers, directors, cinematographers, technicians and musicians to flee to Hollywood in the 1940s.

They took with them the shadows and strangeness of German expressionism, their sense of oppression, fear and paranoia, and transplanted them on to the American landscape. Using as their template the pessimistic, hardboiled crime fiction of writers such as Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammet, they helped to create a cinematic style infused by the fatalism of a world broken by war. This was film noir, a monochrome galaxy of streets glistening with rain under sickly city lights, where smoking femmes fatales bewitch bourbon-laced anti-heroes in threadbare motels, and life is cheaper than a hand-me-down suit (re-read that sentence in the voice of Tom Waits, it sounds better).

The world of film noir was, as Sweet observed, "a place where the sun had died and people got by with neon". As you've probably gathered, it's easy to get carried away with the seedy romanticism of this immortal movie genre, which is why smart, concise little documentaries like this continue to stoke our fascination with it. Sweet, clearly enjoying himself, swept us through the core tenets of the genre under chapter headings such as "Choose a Dame With a Past and a Hero With No Future" and "Use No Fiction But Pulp Fiction". With the help of film scholars and luminaries such as writer/director Paul Schrader, cinematographer Roger Deakins, and crime fiction author and The Wire writer George Pelecanos, he examined the visual and thematic devices of stone-cold classics such The Big Sleep and The Postman Always Rings Twice (happily using clips longer than ten seconds, which is almost unheard of on TV these days). Although the films were peppered with sex and violence, strict censorship forced the makers into creative ways of ensuring that audiences knew exactly what was being implied. Hence all that wild, innuendo-laden dialogue between Bogey and Bacall, which often resembled a classy Carry On film, albeit one in which Sid James winds up dead in a river.

Full of morally ambiguous characters and casual horror – witness Lee Marvin tossing scalding coffee into a woman's face in The Big Heat – these films echoed the pessimism of their times, which would eventually be swept away by the booming optimism of the 1950s. But for a while, a disparate group of European émigrés and American artisans created a stellar movement which was recognised as such only in retrospect. At the time, they were just giving the people what they wanted, and happened to make great art in the process. So while cineastes continue to argue over whether film noir should technically be considered a genre at all – isn't it better described as a mood? – Sweet offered an enjoyable film studies primer on how and why these nocturnal classics continue to resonate.

1. Due to many files being reported lately, I had to implement new way of "protecting" the links and still it is connected to jDownloader, that together with Linksave.in implemented Click'N'Load protection technology. Until now when files got protected using DLC file, you had to download a DLC container and open it manually with JD. This happens automatically now with Click'N'Load. After opening the Linksave.in folder you will be able to access the Click'N'Load button. JD will open automatically, import all the links and present them in the familiar link collector after just one click and confirmation.

Click'N'Load was developped by JDownloader and works on Windows systems only.

As if a long difficult journey without any comfort weren't bad enough for such odd companions, she is determined to find a way to do their bit for the British war effort (and revenge her brother) and aims high as God is obviously on their side: construct their own equipment, a torpedo and the converted steamboat, to take out a huge German warship, the Louisa, which is hard to find on the giant lake and first of all to reach, in fact as daunting an expedition as nobody attempted since the late adventurous explorer John Speakes, but she presses till Charlie accepts to steam up the Ulana, about to brave a German fort, raging rapids, very bloodthirsty parasites and the endlessly branching stream which seems to go nowhere but impenetrable swamps... Despite fierce rows and moral antagonism between a bossy devout abstentionist and a free-spirited libertine drunk loner, the two bachelors grow closer to each-other as their quest drags on...
