Description: 1932. The Flying Schumanns entourage - decorated Great War fighter pilot Roger Schumann, his daredevil parachutist wife LaVerne Schumman, mechanic Jiggs, and the Schumanns' now nine year old son Jack Schumann - travel the air show circuit, largely living off prize money won in air races. At their latest stop at the Delta Field Air Show in New Orleans, they are befriended by New Orleans Picayune reporter Burke Devlin, who, due to their tight finances, offers them accommodations in his small one bedroom apartment with him. Burke, covering the air show, wants to do a story on the nomadic lives of the pilots and their entourages traveling the air circuit, especially when he learns of the complex relationship between Roger, LaVerne and Jiggs, which is not always harmonious due to a long held issue, and despite LaVerne and Jack idolizing imperfect Roger. Burke, in getting involved personally with the Schumanns, adds an extra level of complexity to their already troubled family life, which is made even more complex with the involvement of businessman Matt Ord into their livelihood. What happens within this collective makes Burke further examine his work as a reporter, which he sees as not just stating the facts.

Lee Van Cleef ... 1st Sgt. Rickett

Description: World War II. Movie Focuses on the military and personal lives of three men for the duration of the war. The first is Lieutenant Christian Diestl of the German SS. A self-professed non-political person, he believed that Hitler and the Nazis would be good for Germany by bringing a new prosperity to working class people like him, and that the few casualties of war are a necessary means to the desired end. The second and third are US Army Privates Michael Whiteacre and Noah Ackerman, who meet and befriend each other at the draft board office. Michael is a famous Broadway entertainer, who doesn't want to see any action and uses whatever means available because of his celebrity status to get a non-combat posting away from the battlefields. Jewish Noah, slight of build, is a sensitive man and all alone in the world before meeting Michael, which make him a seemingly easy target for those who are against him in any way. On the personal side, Christian, while posted in France, and a Frenchwoman named Françoise, fall in love despite she despises him being one of the Nazi aggressors. He also embarks on a sexual tryst with Gretchen Hardenberg, the wife of his commanding officer, the marriage a cold one which has made both husband and wife cold people. Noah marries the former Hope Plowman, a gentile, just prior to being shipped overseas. Their marriage was one, solely on the surface, that was met with disapproval by her provincial father, who had never met a Jew before Noah. And Michael's girlfriend, socialite Margaret Freemantle, who is working in the USO, wanted to get married before his deployment like Noah and Hope did. Although Margaret doesn't want to see Michael get hurt, she also wants him to take responsibility for doing his meaningful part for the American war effort, especially as she had seen and despised Nazism when she was in Bavaria on vacation prior to the war. The war itself changes Christian, Noah and Michael in different ways, the former two whose biggest literal and figurative battles may be with forces on their supposed sides.

Long day's journey into night (1962) - less known drama directed by Sidney Lumet, starring Katharine Hepburn, Ralph Richardson, Jason Robards and Dean Stockwell

Rating 7.6/10
Runtime: 171 min
Language: English
Country: USA
Directed by: Sidney Lumet
IMDb Link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056196/

Katharine Hepburn ... Mary Tyrone
Ralph Richardson ... James Tyrone
Jason Robards ... Jamie Tyrone
Dean Stockwell ... Edmund Tyrone
Jeanne Barr ... Kathleen

Description: One day in the early twentieth century in the life of the outwardly "loving" yet dysfunctional Tyrone family - parents James and Mary, and their two surviving adult sons Jamie and Edmund - at their Connecticut seaside summer home is presented. Mary has recently been released from a sanatorium for addiction to morphine. She got hooked on it during the difficult pregnancy with Edmund. As such, she secretly blames him for her addiction. Although Mary is purportedly clean, the male members of the family can't help but believe that she is still getting her fixes when she is alone. Edmund, a mariner, also recently arrived home. They are all aware deep in their hearts that Edmund is suffering from consumption, and not a summer cold as they all say it is, as they await the official diagnosis. James, formerly an actor, is a spendthrift despite having money. He, however, is not unwilling to spend money on whiskey or get rich quick schemes, largely buying what ends up being worthless real estate. Jamie largely blames his father for not spending the money early in their illnesses for Mary and Edmund's health/medical problems. Otherwise, Jamie has largely been aimless in his life. He has followed in James' footsteps in becoming an actor solely because James gave him the opportunity, but places no effort in it as a career. In addition to these issues, all three male members of the family drink to excess. These family issues are played out as the long day turns into night...

Description: It's the pre-WWII era. Peyton Place is a small town in New England, whose leading adult citizens rule the town with their high moral standards, which they try to pass on to their offspring. The adults, especially those that wield power largely through their positions and/or through their wealth, will not tolerate anything they believe morally improper, even if there is a hint of impropriety without comprehensive evidence to back up the hints. As their offspring grow from teenagers to adults, they learn that there is much hypocrisy by the adults lying underneath that façade of proper Christian morals. The offspring begin to rebel in different ways, which is brought to public scrutiny with the arrival into town of an "outsider", the new young high school principal Michael Rossi, and through a murder trial.
