Description: While on patrol on Lower Manhattan on St. Patrick's Day, traffic cop Charlie Dunnigan spots a potential suicide on a ledge of a Broadway hotel. Because the young man vocalizes his dislike for the police, Dunnigan alters his uniform and establishes a rapport with him. When the police rescue squad arrives, Dunnigan returns to his street duties. Authorities identify the jumper as Robert Cosick but are unable to win his trust or discover the reason for his actions. Cosick demands that Dunnigan return as the swelling crowd and cynical reporters create a media circus in the streets. As the day wears on, psychiatrists, Cosick's dysfunctional parents, and his ex-fiancee all try to talk him off the ledge without success as the day gives way to an eerie night illuminated by floodlights...

Description: Sprawling epic which follows the Prescotts, an emigrant family through four generations, from the Erie Canal in the 1830's to their settled home in the West a half a century later. On the way they encounter river pirates, and escape with the help of fur trapper Linus Rawlings (James Stewart), who subsequently marries one of their daughters, Eve (Carroll Baker). The parents are drowned on a foundering raft, and the other daughter Lilith (Debbie Reynolds) becomes a riverboat singer and catches the eye of a genteel adventurer Cleve Van Valen (Gregory Peck). They cross the plains together in a wagon train and make and lose a fortune in California; meanwhile Linus has turned farmer and, comes the Civil War, joins the Union Army and is killed at the Battle of Shiloh. One of his sons Zeb (George Peppard) also joins the army and stays after the war as a cavalry officer and is sent to Colorado to help guard the pioneering railroad against the Indians, whose land they are crossing. By this time Lilith is the elderly lady of the family, having survived long enough to see the dream of settlement realized, but not, mercifully, the aerial shots of the Los Angeles freeway traffic with which the film ends.

Description: The young, handsome, but somewhat wild Eugene Morgan wants to marry Isabel Amberson, daughter of a rich upper-class family, but she instead marries dull and steady Wilbur Minafer. Description: Bogart plays a man convicted of murdering his wife who escapes from prison in order to prove his innocence. Bogart finds that his features are too well known, and is forced to seek some illicit backroom plastic surgery. The entire pre-knife part of the film is shot from a Bogart's-eye-view, with us seeing the fugitive for the first time as he starts to recuperate from the operation in the apartment of a sympathetic young artist (played by Bacall) for whom he soon finds affection. But what he's really after is revenge.

We also learn about Bogart's interest in The Dark Road, the David Goodis book upon which Dark Passage is based, and how he and producer Jerry Wald needed to convince a reluctant Jack Warner to buy the "bleak" property. Examinations of the lives of Goodis and director-writer Delmer Daves are also included, as well as a discussion of the film's location shooting and innovative technique. Despite the best intentions, Bogart himself became ensnared in political intrigue, and the fallout haunted him for the rest of his life.

* Slick Hare - Bugs Bunny cartoon featuring an animated Bogart as a demanding nightclub customer who threatens to gun down waiter Elmer Fudd if he's not served a dish of fried rabbit in 20 minutes. Fudd frantically searches the kitchen until he happens upon that "wascally wabbit" Bugs munching carrots in a corner. Typical antics ensue, with hilarious depictions of other famous restaurant guests, including Frank Sinatra, Ray Milland, the Marx Brothers, Sydney Greenstreet and Carmen Miranda.

* Trailer - a beautifully restored original trailer shamelessly misleads viewers by playing up the Bogart-Bacall romantic angle in Dark Passage and ignoring the more potent and predominate murder mystery. The trailer opens with a theater usher referencing the duo's previous pictures, lulling the audience into the lie that Dark Passage will be a carbon copy — hard evidence of the studio's nervousness over the film's risky style and somber story.
