Joe visits his girlfriend Anna, and discovers a bug in her telephone, and that their love letters were seized. Lisa wants a divorce, but also wants a disproportionate settlement, including 75% of the Brisson Land Development Company. Lisa's young boyfriend, racetrack gambler Bobby Davenport, will lose his inherited property if Joe calls in Bobby's debt. Joe couldn't hire Foyle to murder his wife, but he convinces Bobby to do it while Joe is on a sea cruise to London. Joe calls Lisa from the ship, and listens as Bobby plugs her. Then Joe has a guest...

Description: A businessman desperate for a change in his fortunes tests the power of a gypsy woman's monkey-paw charm which is said to grant its holder three wishes. His son suffers the consequences.

Description: A mail-order bride begins to believe her husband killed his first wife and wants to kill her as well.

Episode 28 - Night fever

Description: A handsome young thief, wounded by police in a robbery that left a young rookie cop dead, is hospitalized under tight security. After middle-aged spinster Nurse Ellen Hatch takes charge of his care, he tries to sweet-talk her into believing that he is innocent of the crime and contends the vindictive police are victimizing him and that he won't make it to trial alive if they have their way. As the police relent somewhat under the influence of her strict, no-nonsense attitude, the young thief develops a personal relationship with her. As she reluctantly succumbs to his romantic advances, the convalescing prisoner tries to cajole her into helping him escape.

Episode 13 - Where the Woodbine Twineth

Description: After Eva Snyder becomes an orphan, she comes to live with the elderly Mississippi riverboat Captain King Snyder and his old-maid daughter Nell. While the Captain is piloting his boat, Nell finds it difficult to govern Eva, who constantly talks to imaginary friends whom Eva believes are real, including Mingo and her father Mr. Peppercorn. When the Captain returns, he presents Eva with a gift--a black doll named Numa. Nell hears Eva chatting and playing with Numa, but suspects that it is a child from the neighborhood. Eva warns that if Nell takes Numa away, Eva will trade places with Numa and go to the idyllic place "Where the Woodbine Twineth."

Episode 14 - The final performance

Description: Cliff's driving when a young woman flags him down and asks for a ride. He soon has trouble - both legal and automotive, when they're stopped by the police and she lies, and says he forced her. What's more, his car won't start, and it's towed to a repair shop. While he waits for the car, Cliff gets a room at the hotel, run by Rudolph Bitzner - a former vaudevillian, with a specialty act with his only employee, Rosie. She pleads with Cliff to help her escape from Rudolph, who plans to marry her as soon as she becomes 18. There's a lot about Rudolph, and the relationship between the two, which Cliff isn't aware of, but he should, because it'll soon be one of their last performances.

Episode 15 - Thanatos Palace Hotel

Description: After Robert Manner's attempt to kill himself is ruined by a fireman's net, he is invited to join a suicide club headquartered at the Thanatos Palace Hotel. The members of the club have agreed to kill each. The catch is that the victim never knows who the killer will be and never knows when the murder will occur. Robert joins the club, but falls in love with one of its members Ariane Shaw. He gets a new lease on life and decides to undermine the club in order to prevent his own death.

Episode 16 - One of the family

Description: A man and his wife hire his childhood nanny to care for their baby son. After they hear of the arsenic murder of another baby, the mother becomes suspicious, but the father thinks she's overreacting.

Episode 17 - An unlocked window

Description: A serial killer is in the area where some private nurses have locked themselves in a large house, except for one basement window.

Episode 18 - The trap

Description: A toy manufacturer's new assistant has an affair with the obnoxious, overbearing businessman's beautiful younger wife. After enduring a rather humiliating interview, the bright college grad, condescendingly nicknamed "Princeton", proves valuable to the manufacturer through his hard work. But the assistant is impatient for, among other things, advancement.

Episode 19 - Wally the Beard

Description: When a man purchases a wig and a beard, he winds up getting a whole new personality, which also leads to a new girlfriend along with a lot of serious problems that have the very real potential to drive him to madness unless he does something soon.

Episode 20 - Death scene

Description: Auto mechanic Leo Manfred fixes a limousine owned by Gavin Revere, a famed, retired and wheelchair-bound Hollywood director. Gavin's beautiful daughter Nicky catches Leo's eye, so he offers to drive her home where he meets Gavin. Gavin, distrusting, warns Leo to stay away from Nicky. Leo is persistent and eventually Nicky falls in love with him. But when Gavin learns about their marriage plans, he fears Leo only wants her for their money. To convince the director of his true intentions, Leo takes out a life insurance policy for fifty thousand dollars with the payoff going to Nicky. Gavin agrees, and the marriage plans continue. Shortly before the wedding, however, Leo makes the fatal mistake of insulting one of Gavin's movies entitled "Death Scene," and the old man changes his mind about the wedding. Not willing to give up Nicky over a quarrel, Leo wheels Gavin to an empty swimming pool to stage an "accidental" death, but his plan goes awry.

Episode 1 - Return of Verge Likens

Description: Corrupt political boss murders the rebel father of 2 young men. The older brother faces difficult choices: swallow his pride to keep up the hardscrabble Appalachian farm & care for his developmentally disabled brother, or risk a quick death seeking retribution. When the older brother quietly leaves town to attend school, the arrogant boss is confident he's in the clear - no school offers a major in revenge, right?

Episode 2 - Change of address

Description: Keith Hollands finds a beach house for lease, but Elsa, his wife, hates it because she's never liked the beach. Nevertheless, Keith rents the place and tries to convince the owner of the property to sell. Elsa spies a beautiful young lady named Rachel strolling in the surf, unaware that Rachel is the object of her husband's desire. Keith digs a trench in the cellar, ostensibly to eliminate dampness. Soon after, three policemen arrive.

Episode 3 - Water's edge

Description: Rusty Connors is a prison cellmate with Mike Krause, who tells Rusty all about his girlfriend Helen. Mike becomes ill with pneumonia, and reveals to Rusty on his deathbed that a stash of $56,000 is with his dead accomplice, Pete Taylor. When he is released, Rusty goes to Hanesville and courts Helen, while attempting with her help to find the loot. They finally go to a boat house on a lake, populated by rats. Rusty finds Pete's skeleton, and the money, in a crawl space above the ceiling. Will they get away with it...?

Episode 4 - The life work of Juan Diaz

Description: Young Juan Diaz gives cemetery caretaker Alejandro 40 pesos to rent a burial plot. He soon falls fatally ill, and warns his wife, Maria, to not let Alejandro cheat her out of the two-year lease for which he paid. One year later, Alejandro asks Maria for more money, or he will disinter Juan's mummy and place it in the catacomb. Maria and her son Jorge sneak into the catacomb, and frighten Alejandro as they walk Juan's mummy out of the cemetery. Alejandro asks Ricardo, the Chief of Police and Maria's brother-in-law, to confiscate Juan's mummy from the Diaz home, but Ricardo refuses...

Episode 5 - See the monkey dance

Description: During a brief train stop, George takes the opportunity to telephone another man's wife and arrange a two-day rendezvous. When he returns to his compartment, there's now a stranger there who provokes him into conversation. George reveals the location of his caravan in the country, but the stranger claims to reside at the same location. After George arrives, the stranger shows up and begins to dig a grave.

Episode 6 - Lonely place

Description: A poor, loving, farmer's wife discovers just how evil a hired drifter is, and how much of a coward her husband is too.

Episode 7 - The McGregor affair

Description: In Georgian Scotland, a simple and unhappily-married man is employed to deliver "supplies" to anatomy professor Dr. Robert Knox of the Edinburgh Medical College, but, is unaware of the true contents of the boxes furnished by his associates, Messrs. Burke and Hare.

Episode 8 - Misadventure

Description: A wife awaiting the arrival of her lover is visited by a bizarre meter reader who jams on the gas in her basement and then cons her into letting him shower by faking a malaria attack. What's behind his strange behavior: blackmail, insanity, lust or something else?

Episode 9 - Trium

Description: Two new missionaries, the Spragues, arrive at the Fitzgibbons' medical mission in the Indian jungle. John Sprague is a physician and Lucy a nurse. Mary Fitzgibbons suspects that they were sent to check up on them, and that they want the mission for themselves. Thomas Fitzgibbons is not medically competent, and Mary must perform difficult procedures for him. When John leaves to attend to a cholera outbreak, Thomas takes Lucy for an evening canoe ride on the river. They discuss philosophy and her beauty. Mary sees them together, and becomes jealous. Early in the morning, she grabs a scalpel and enters Lucy's bedroom. A piercing scream resounds. A messenger is sent to inform John of his wife's sudden death from cholera. He rushes back, but the Fitzgibbons have gone down-river for several days. He asks the Indian employees to help find the grave of his wife, which was hidden to prevent the spread of cholera, because he suspects that she was not a cholera victim...

Episode 10 - Memo from purgatory

Description: Wannabee writer Jay Shaw arrives in NYC. He decides if he's going to write fiction about juvenile delinquent gangs, he'd best learn what they're really like. Using the alias Phil Beldone, he moves into a flat in a rough section of Brooklyn and seeks to join the Barons, a violent gang led by Tiger. During his gang initiation, he gains Tiger's trust and respect and begins a relationship with one of the gang's "debs". He also makes an enemy of the gang's second-in-command and risks exposure of his true identity.

Episode 17 - The jar

Description: Charlie Hill is mesmerized by a strange jar at a carnival sideshow. He buys it from the owner, but his wife Thedy Sue is frightened and wants it thrown out. The townspeople come from miles to see it and Charlie becomes a local celebrity.

Episode 18 - Final escape

Description: A convict at a state prison work camp plans a clever escape with the help of the aging, alcoholic fellow prisoner who's in charge of making coffins and burying the camp's deceased.

Episode 19 - Murder case

Description: A struggling actor auditioning in London learns that his actress-girlfriend who dumped him is married to the play's backer, a rich diamond merchant. They soon rekindle their romance and plan to get her out of her marriage.

Episode 20 - Anyone for a murder?

Description: James Parkerson is a professor and dean of psychology. He places a classified ad in the newspaper offering to help husbands and wives who want to be relieved of their spouses, ostensibly to conduct research. The editor calls him into the newspaper office for a meeting with a police detective, who suspects him of offering murder for hire. The ad is discontinued, but he receives 20 responses. The first responder is Bingham, a real hit man, who wants all of Parkerson's referrals. The second responder is Robert Johnson, with whom Doris Parkerson is having an adulterous affair. Bingham plans to kill Mrs. Parkerson, but Johnson gets in the way.

Episode 21 - Beast in view

Description: An attorney helps a client threatened by an unstable woman who blames her for a broken wedding engagement.

Episode 22 - Behind the locked doors

Description: Dave Snowden elopes with wealthy Bonnie Daniels, and Mr. Spencer sees them break into the abandoned old estate where Bonnie lived until age six. Mr. Spencer informs Bonnie's mother, Mrs. Daniels, who finds Snowden struggling to open a mysterious locked door on the upper floor. Mrs. Daniels annuls the marriage, because Bonnie's true age is only 17, not 19, as Dave was told. Three weeks later, when Bonnie reaches majority, she rejoins Dave, and they consummate nuptials, but Mrs. Daniels will not release Bonnie's trust fund until she is 25.

Episode 23 - A matter of murder

Description: A notorious but ethical auto thief and his gang steal a Rolls-Royce, unaware that the trunk contains the body of a woman who was murdered by her husband.

Episode 24 - The gentleman caller

Description: Gerald Musgrove shoots and kills a night watchman while stealing $100,000 from a bank. On the street nearby, while eluding police, he meets elderly Emmy Rice, and befriends her. Since he is on parole, he must launder the loot, so he stows it in some of Emmy's old magazines. Gerald then prods impoverished Emmy into writing a will, awarding all money found in her apartment to himself. He tries to murder Emmy three times, but she survives, and arranges for the arrest of Milly Musgrove for attempting to gas her to death. Gerald is apprehended too, when he realizes that Emmy gave all her magazines to a junk collector, and blurts admissions of guilt. Emmy, however, kept one magazine in cold storage, containing all of the purloined bills.

Episode 25 - The ordeal of Mrs. Snow

Description: An elderly woman is locked in an air tight safe with one of her cats by her niece's fiancé when she discovers he is a forger.

Episode 26 - Ten minutes from now

Description: The Commissioner of Recreation & Parks receives three life-threatening letters in one week, complaining about the method by which art is selected for museum display. When James Bellington enters City Hall with a breadbox-sized package and runs from a lobby policeman, he is apprehended, but the parcel only contains an alarm clock. Bellington is sent to Dr. Glover, a psychiatrist, who labels him a paranoid with homicidal or suicidal tendencies. Bellington delivers two shoeboxes to the art museum, but shows the bomb squad that they only contain art supplies. In a bistro, he tells an undercover policewoman that he plans to bring a dangerous device to the museum. When he arrives with his finger on a button atop a box possibly filled with explosive, police clear the museum. Then Bellington rendezvous with his confederates, art thieves, who have already replaced five paintings with his forgeries.

Episode 27 - The sign of satan

Description: A group of studio executives and a leading lady view a screening of a black mass, and are impressed by the performance of Karl Jorla. They want him for the lead in their next horror picture, so they fly him into Hollywood from France. They need to arrange for publicity but Jorla refuses, saying that the film they observed was of him as the real-life arch-priest of a group of devil worshipers who will track him down and kill him. The studio tries to protect him, but he trusts no one. He disappears, then suddenly emerges three days later in a scene with the leading lady, cryptically mumbling the address in Topanga Canyon where he may be located. The police find his murdered corpse, but an autopsy reveals that he has been dead for at least three days.

Episode 28 - Who needs an enemy?

Description: Eddie Turtin discovers that his friend and business partner, Charlie Osgood, has fraudulently defalcated at least $60,000 from their company, and warns him that if he does not repay the money promptly, criminal charges will be pressed that should result in a 35-year prison sentence. Charlie concocts a plan with his girlfriend Danielle to fake his death, placing a dummy in public view on a pier. The dummy appears to jump suicidally, then a violent explosion destroys the body. Charlie and Danielle plan to abscond with $89,000 stowed in a company filing cabinet. But the best laid plans often don't go as planned.

Episode 29 - Bed of roses

Description: A married man finds his beautiful mistress murdered and flees without reporting it, only to become the victim of blackmail.

Episode 30 - The second verdict

Description: An ethical lawyer becomes very disturbed about what to do when the client he just got acquitted of murder brags that he committed the crime.

Episode 31 - Isabel

Description: After serving a prison sentence, a man romances the woman whose false testimony got him convicted.

Episode 32 - Body in the barn

Description: A domineering wife is suspected of murdering her husband when the body of an unrecognizable man is found buried in her barn.

Episode 1 - A home away from home

Description: A patient at a mental hospital kills the head doctor and takes over, replacing the staff with fellow patients. Things get complicated when the niece of the real doctor makes an unexpected visit.

Episode 2 - A nice touch

Description: A successful Hollywood actor convinces his lover to kill her abusive husband, then makes a phone call.

Episode 3 - Terror at Northfield

Description: A small town is rocked by a series of murders which begins with the killing of a local farmer's son.

Episode 4 - You'll be the death of me

Description: A woman becomes the target of her murderous spouse after she finds a button from one of his victims.

Episode 5 - Blood bargain

Description: Racketeer Harney gives Derry a contract to hit Breech, whose wife Connie is a paraplegic. Derry meets Connie, helping her to play a bar jukebox. Sympathizing with Connie, Derry decides, for a price, to fake Breech's death by buying a mortuary corpse and staging an automobile smash-up. Derry expects Breech and Connie to abscond to Mexico City.

Episode 6 - Nothing ever happens in Linvale

Description: A sheriff investigates the disappearance of the wife of a man who has been acting suspiciously.

Episode 7 - Starring the defense

Description: Miles Crawford, a former movie star, is now a successful attorney. When his young son Tod is charged with first-degree murder, he hires the best criminal lawyer, but then convinces Tod that he should represent him at trial. His closing argument is an impassioned performance, bringing applause from spectators. Then the judge calls the attorneys into his chambers. The prosecutor has discovered some startling new evidence that may affect the case.

Episode 8 - The cadaver

Description: A college aide borrows a dead female body from the lab and plants it in his roommate's dorm to try and scare him sober, but the joke becomes disastrous.

Episode 9 - The dividing wall

Description: A wall separating the innocent from the guilty is perilously breached when ex-cons mistakenly steal radioactive cobalt, then abandon it. Thinking the cobalt container hides industrial diamonds, they open it in their front, an auto repair shop, endangering the neighborhood. As they lie low, before fleeing to Mexico, only the youngest of the trio is concerned about the neighbors, especially a female shopkeeper he cares for. Fear mounts, as the mechanic who pried open the Pandora's box, grows ill, and the FBI tracks the radioactivity.

Episode 10 - Good-Bye George

Description: The husband of a successful actress, thought for years to be dead, suddenly returns and demands he once again become a part of her life, now that she's a success. Things get complicated when she accidentally kills him after he attacks her.

Episode 11 - How to get rid of your wife

Description: Gerald Swinney is a henpecked husband suffering under the constant verbal abuse of his overbearing wife. Gerald devises a plan to rid himself of her and begin his life over again, but the results have unexpected consequences.

Episode 12 - Three wives too many

Description: One of a bigamist's four wives takes it upon herself to track down and kill the other three women.

Episode 13 - The magic shop

Description: After a little boy vanishes in a magic shop, he comes back later with supernatural powers and evil intentions.

Episode 14 - Beyond the sea of death

Description: An heiress finally finds a young man who loves her for herself instead of her money. After he dies in a Bolivian mine explosion, she tries to regain contact with him through an Indian mystic.

Episode 15 - Night caller

Description: Marcia Fowler is sunbathing in her backyard when she spots a new neighbor, Roy Bullock, eyeing her. Frightened, she calls the police, who take her to the Bullock house and warn Roy not to be a peeping Tom. Marcia also asks her husband Jack to admonish Roy, but Jack finds Roy to be friendly. Roy befriends 12-year-old Stevey Fowler. Marcia begins getting obscene telephone calls, and blames them on Roy. When Jack and Stevey take a flight to San Francisco, Roy visits Marcia to leave a gift for Stevey, and to chide Marcia for her infidelity. Panicked, she overreacts, and soon regrets her rashness.

Episode 16 - The evil of Adelaide Winters

Description: A woman runs a psychic scam with hidden speakers to make people believe she can contact their dead love ones, and one man believes she has contacted his dead son, so he becomes dangerously obsessed with her sessions.

The Alfred Hitchcock Hour - Season 1


A continuation of the dramatic anthology series hosted by the Master of Suspense and Mystery. When the series Alfred Hitchcock Presents was revived in 1962, the name was changed, but the format stayed fairly true to the original. In each episode, viewers would be strung along with the story, never knowing which way the final twist would turn

Episode 1 - A piece of the action

Description: Professional gambler Duke Marsden bitterly treads in his father's footsteps, which led to tragedy. Duke's wife is cold and aristocratic, fed up with his habits, she gives him an ultimatum to either give up poker or else she's gone. Duke is appalled when his younger brother Chuck, a law student, catches the fever too - does he have Duke's ability or their father's luck?..

Episode 2 - Don't look behind you

Description: In the insular world of a small college, someone is attacking women in a nearby woods. A group of faculty aridly mull the situation at their regular cocktail parties. Is one of the men the attacker, is the group's beautiful Daphne being lined up as a victim?

Episode 3 - Night of the owl

Description: A former prison chaplain and his accomplice blackmail a happy family. The blackmailers know that the oldest daughter is adopted and comes from a tragic background; her biological father killed her mother and then himself. The adoring couple love raising their daughters in the idyllic environment of the picturesque and peaceful Appalachian mountains. The husband, a forest ranger, wants to shield his daughter from taunts and gossip should the history of her birth parents become public knowledge. The smarmy blackmailer keeps coming back for more, so the husband mulls his options along with the consequences. The plot thickens when one of the blackmailers is found murdered deep in the piney woods.

Episode 4 - I saw the whole thing

Description: A mystery writer named Michael Barnes is accused of causing a fatal motorcycle accident with his car. The eyewitnesses prove less than reliable, however, when he defends himself in court and shreds their testimony by demonstrating that in each case the witnesses saw only what they wanted to see rather than the actual truth. Finally, George Peabody is called in as a witness. He was the only one who really saw the whole thing.

Episode 5 - Captive audience

Description: A mystery novelist sends a series of weird audiotapes to his publisher. On the first tape, the author boasts that the publisher won't be able to discern if the story he narrates is the history of an imminent murder - or a mere fantasy. The author tells of his brief marriage ending when his wife was killed after he lost control of their car. They were kissing, making up after an argument over his wife's staying out all night with a rich old man, the same evening the author was briefly with the man's alluring, young wife Janet. Janet made a pass at the author, who immediately cut the evening short. The author says he fell into a severe depression, declined a needed brain operation, moved from France to San Francisco where he changed his name, then became a mystery writer. The tapes relate how the author eventually ran into Janet , and though she's still married, dived into an affair. When she and the author begin to plan her husband's murder, the publisher calls in another of his mystery novelists to determine: are these tapes just an unorthodox pitch of a new novel - or the bizarre confession of a deranged killer?

Episode 6 - Final vow

Description: On her way back to the nunnery, a beautiful novice loses a priceless 15th-century Donatello statuette donated to the convent by an aging criminal seeking redemption for his illegal endeavors. To track it down, the guilt-ridden young woman leaves the order and dives naively into the sleazy world of the criminal who stole the icon from her at a train station on her return trip.

Episode 7 - Annabel

Description: A disturbed man's other identity snares others in a perilous web. David is a successful, quiet young scientist - but on weekends he has an impeccable country cottage where as the confident William, he fantasizes as if actually entertaining ex-girlfriend Annabel, now happily married nearby. When his co-workers, one of whom has a crush on David, follow him up the coast, David's dream world by the sea for Annabel, morphs into a nightmare for all.

Episode 8 - House guest

Description: An oily hero quickly makes himself unwelcome - even harder to dispose of, until he crashes his hosts' car & mashes a neighbor's wife. The unemployed stranger saved the life of a young boy, whose grateful parents welcomed the recently discharged vet into their seaside home.

Episode 9 - The black curtain

Description: Getting conked on the head with a thug's slapjack during a mugging causes a man lose consciousness and, when he awakens, to revert to his memory of events 3 years earlier, but he conveniently forgets that he's currently wanted for murder under an assumed identity.

Episode 10 - Day of reckoning

Description: An unfaithful wife taunts her husband that she's ditching him for a real man. As the drunken couple argue on the stern of a yacht, the normally timid husband shoves her overboard to drown. The society party-goers on the boat support his tale that the wife accidentally fell overboard that night, and the police believe the husband, too. At first, he's relieved, then gradually guilt takes him over, but friends feel his panicky behavior is grief. The widower blurts the murder to his friends, but his story was so convincing they downplay his confession, not wanting to be involved in an embarrassing murder inquiry. As his internal pressure mounts, the killer desperately seeks a way out.

Episode 11 - Ride the nightmare

Description: A perfect couple's content suburban world is interrupted by a telephone threat ("I'm going to kill you") against the cocksure husband. His past misdeeds unravel his new life, terrifying his unknowing wife.

Episode 12 - Hangover

Description: Hadley Purvis, an advertising man, finds himself facing a divorce if he doesn't knock off his heavy drinking. This does little to slow him down as he continues to drink himself into an alcoholic stupor, and one morning, finds himself at home with a girl named Marion that he picked up the night before.

Episode 13 - Bonfire

Description: A lonely young woman moves into her newly deceased aunt's home in a small town. A way-too-helpful, next-door neighbor becomes her guardian angel, yet with his own agenda in mind. He's a lay preacher, who's determined not to go back to being a coal miner.

Episode 14 - The tender poisoner

Description: An executive plans to end an associate's love affair and save the man's career and marriage.

Episode 15 - The thirty-first of February

Description: An inquest rules a wife's death as accidental, but when the widower returns to work, it seems someone is tricking him, including a letter accusing him of murder and one of his wife's letters appearing, revealing she had a lover. Increasingly the widower's own mind tricks him, rejecting logical explanations, instead angrily confronting his co-workers.

Episode 16 - What really happened

Description: A woman stands trial for her wealthy husband's murder. Her vengeful mother-in-law is convinced that she did it, but a family servant knows the key to what really happened.

Episode 17 - Forecast: low clouds and coastal fog

Description: A beautiful young newlywed is wary of her much-older husband's business trip leaving her alone in their beach house. A group of beach boys and a neighboring screenwriter provide her some company, unwanted by the husband. When an Hispanic man knocks on her door at night asking for help, she turns him away, leading to tragic consequences.

Episode 18 - A tangled web

Description: A very sweet French maid runs away with, and marries a professional burglar with hopes of making him honest. However, the burglar's "fence" (Karl) has his own hopes in mind.

Episode 19 - To catch a butterfly

Description: At first, a childless young couple are thrilled to relocate for the husband's new executive job, and especially happy with their new home. Is the next-door neighbor boy's cruelty to them just a youngster rebelling against his blue-collar, strict father? The husband's empathy for the boy drives a dangerous wedge into their marriage.

Description: A man tries to stop his insensitive wife from alienating their family and friends.

Description: Relatives of a murdered newlywed decide to bring the killer to justice themselves.

Description: After killing a woman, a man is chosen to be a juror for the trial of the man accused of her murder.

Episode 25 - The long silence

Description: "Let's keep it within the family" instructs Mr. Manson, after an audit reveals $200,000 embezzled from the family bank he married into. The money was pilfered from accounts of his stepson Robbie, the bank loan officer, who's missing. Late that night, Robbie returns to the Manson family mansion, just as Manson is fleeing with a packed suitcase. Robbie holds a bag too, filled with documents from out-of-town which prove Manson stole the money. When Robbie refuses to let him get away, Manson clamps his hand over Robbie's mouth, begging him to listen. Robbie suffocates, so Manson doctors the crime scene to look like a suicide by hanging. Manson's typing a fake suicide note awakens Robbie's mother, who accuses her husband of killing Robbie. Manson shoves her down a staircase. She lives, paralyzed, unable to speak. Everyone hopes she'll recover, except Manson, who stays by her side.

Episode 26 - An out for Oscar

Description: Mousy bank teller Oscar Blenny, a guest at a desert casino, is enamored with Eva, a seductive casino hostess, who is having affairs with two male co-workers. With the sinister Bill, she's conniving to rip off the casino. When her superior discovers she's two-timing him, their confrontation turns violent and she kills him. Realizing that Oscar is just outside the room, she screams, so schlemiel Oscar can corroborate her damsel-in-distress excuse of self-defense. The casino owner limits the publicity damage, by firing Eva and exiling Bill, who drops Eva cold, to Mexico. The now unemployed Eva cadges a ride to L.A. with Oscar and soon they are wed. When Oscar is nominated for a promotion, slovenly alcoholic Eva is a big liability, especially when Bill resurfaces in L.A. Does Eva kill Bill, will Bill reveal all about Eva, or will Oscar decline the award?

Episode 27 - Death and the joyful woman

Description: Luis Aguilar is a rich wine merchant who disowns his son when he refuses to marry beautiful vineyard owner Kitty Norris. At a party, however, Luis agrees to give his son $5000 if boy can drink him under the table. Drinking his own wine called "Joyful Woman" Luis humiliates his son by outdrinking him. After the contest, Luis hits on Kitty who resists and pushes him down the stairs. When Luis's secretary Ruth witnesses the event she jealously kills Luis in the hope that Kitty will be blamed. Ruth wanted Luis all for herself. Unfortunately for Ruth, a waiter discovers the body and figures out that Luis did not die in a fall...

Episode 28 - Last seen wearing blue jeans

Description: A vacationing British family is on the Arizona border with Mexico when their teenage daughter mistakes a criminal's stolen car for her family's and goes to sleep in the backseat. Not realizing she is there, the criminal drives the car to Mexico, where the girl witnesses a murder. When the parents realize their daughter is missing, they return to the diner in an attempt to locate her, but corrupt police forces on both sides of the border conspire to keep the daughter from her parents. A handful of honest citizens on both sides of the border try to help, but with the daughter knowing the truth about the car theft business, the criminals must keep her from reuniting with her parents.

Episode 29 - The dark pool

Description: After an adopted son drowns, a strange woman arrives claiming to be the boy's birth mother and proceeds to blackmail the adoptive mother.

Episode 30 - Dear uncle George

Description: A neighbor's letter about an unfaithful wife disturbs an advice columnist.

Description: A young doctor continues to date a beautiful showgirl in spite of warnings that her three previous marriages ended badly for her past husbands.

Description: Father Amian's church isn't in very good shape and needs an expensive new roof. At a mid-week service, a stranger leaves a $10 bill in the collection plate. The stranger becomes a regular attendee and continues to make generous donations. Turns out the stranger, Mr. Sheridan, has taken to praying for winners and since doing so has had nothing but success at the track, winning bet after bet. Sheridan convinces Father Amian to place a bet on a sure thing and Amian regrets his rash act as soon as it's done. Feelings guilty, he prays for the horse not to win, but with a surprising conclusion.


Episode 23 - Incident in the small jail

Description: Leon Gorwald is a traveling salesman who stops in a small town to buy gas. He crosses the street against the light and a local policeman starts writing him a ticket for jaywalking. Gorwald tries to bribe the officer and is promptly arrested and put in a jail cell awaiting the return of the local judge. In the meantime, the local sheriff has arrested a stranger for murdering a local girl. Things get desperate when a local mob decide to lynch the stranger, but by now he has overpowered the sheriff and forced Gorwald to change clothes. The mob drags Gorwald away but things turn out OK for him, in more ways than one.

Description: Arnold Burton hires a very attractive nurse, Miss Greco, to care for his bedridden and demanding wife, Elizabeth. Over a period of months, Arnold and Miss Greco fall in love and concoct a scheme to slowly poison Elizabeth. She catches them kissing one evening and demands that Miss Greco leave. Realizing that his wife controls all of the money, he reluctantly agrees. Arnold then arranges for his wife to interview three candidates to replaces the now departed nurse and she takes great delight in hiring the eldest, a grandmotherly type. Little does she know that she is the one who is in for the surprise.

Description: Mr. Hollister now runs a small museum that is actually something of a shrine to his late son, Ben. He tells a visitor that the human skeleton in the museum is actually that of his son. In a flashback he recounts that his son was hunting a fox for his collection of stuffed animals when he comes across Tim McCaffrey, the son of a wealthy and influential rancher. A fight breaks out and Tim is accidentally shot. Despite his protestations that it was all an accident, he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Once there, he loses all interest in life. But just who is this stranger Mr. Hollister is telling this story to and is he being completely honest?


Episode 26 - Coming, Mama

It seems that her mother has done this before and Arthur, who very much wants to marry Lucy, tells her she has only until the next day to choose between him or her mother. Desperate to get out of her predicament Lucy decides to take drastic action, but with unanticipated results.

Description: Ben Conan is a gigolo who has been living off rich women for most of his life. His latest conquest is Lisa Talbot who is unhappily married. When Conan learns that a private investigator is looking into his past, he thinks it's time for him to move on but Lisa begs him not to go without her. She tells him that her husband is recovering from a heart attack the previous week and if only he would die, they would both be better off, financially and otherwise. Conan decides to take action but too late realizes what is really going on.

Charlotte initially dismisses the idea but her fiancé, Mark Lansing, thinks that a one year delay is very little to pay given the size of Charlotte's potential inheritance. Charlotte eventually marries Howard, who turns out to be in far better health than he let on. Every year on their wedding anniversary Howard gives her a beautiful pearl to add to her ever-growing collection. When Howard finally dies on their 25th wedding anniversary, Charlotte plans on re-marrying but it's not Mark that she has in mind.

She kills Tony and tells the police she has no idea who he is and is just a deranged fan who kidnapped her. The police believe her but also tell her about the inheritance the dead man's wife will get.

When the press seem to be losing interest, Susan goes to extraordinary lengths to keep the "park prowler" story alive, with tragic results.

He subsequently learns that that the robber's gun wasn't loaded and tries to make amends for what he has done by paying part of the boy's funeral. When Gerald is visited by the boy's mother, tragedy results.


Episode 33 - A secret life

Description: James Howgill is bored with his life and his marriage and announces to his wife that he is leaving her. She tells him to do what he likes but that she will never grant him a divorce. In time, he takes up with an attractive young woman and decides to try to force the divorce issue with his wife. His lawyer however informs him that he has no grounds for a divorce and suggests that he hire a private detective to see if his wife may have taken up with another man. He agrees but is quite sure that it is not in his wife's character to carry on. Needless to say, he is astounded when the detective reports that his wife is dating and that a man has spent the night in their house. Howgill begins to see his wife in a new light and decides he wants her back. But just who is this woman that he has returned to?

Description: Kerwin Drake is flabbergasted when his wife Molly lands on his doorstep. Drake is now a successful author and wants nothing to do with her. That same evening he's expecting a group friends for drinks and he agrees to let Molly spend the night, provided she agrees not to leave the guest room. Molly can't resist making an appearance and Drake introduces her as his cook. After his guests leaves he throws her out but she warns him that he had better visit the next evening. He's ready to buy her off, but Molly doesn't want anything to do with it. Drake's solution however doesn't quite work out.


Episode 35 - Coming home

Description: Harry Beggs is released from prison after serving his 20 year sentence. He's actually a reformed man, having learned a trade and having saved every cent of his minimal prison pay. He hasn't seen his family for many years and he and his wife used to always fight about money so he very much wants to show her the money he's accumulated. When the time comes to visit her, he can't quite bring himself to do it and goes to one of his old haunts for a drink. Having had a bit too much to drink, he wakes up to find that he's been rolled by a pretty girl with whom he had struck up a conversation. He does eventually work up the nerve to see his wife and explain to her what has happened but he is also in for a severe shock.

He visits a funeral director and pre-purchases the most expensive funeral available. He then goes to a pharmacy and purchases poison, insisting that he needs something painless. Then at the appointed time, he confronts his wife, one last time.

Both of their respective spouses think something is going on and when Ken walks in on them one he evening he shoots Biff, killing him. When they relay the news to Jackie however, her reaction is not quite what they expected. There is also something of a surprise for Elise.

Davis visits him one evening to let him know that he giving up control of the organization. When the bookkeeper is murdered, Cox turns out to be Davis's alibi.

The doctor assures him that this type of mental break is not uncommon and can be brought on by stress. He assures Ralph that this was just a mental breakdown. But Ralph has one bit of evidence that even the good doctor can't quite explain...

After a few weeks though, Bernie lets Aaron skip swimming and then learns that Aaron is has yet to complete any of the camp activities. As parents' day approaches, the Director flies into a rage when he realizes Aaron has yet to complete his sculpture. When Aaron's Dad shows up, things become a little clearer.

It seems she once worked as his secretary but lived a very lonely life with few friends. After spending the night together however, Blake has her fired and she is clearly intent on revenge.

Description: Miss Lowen receives a visit from the police to warn her that her niece, who is an orphan and has lived with her for nine years, has been corresponding with Rod Collins, a lifer at the State Penitentiary. It would appear that her niece got in touch with him through a pen pal club. The officer warns her that Collins has broken out of jail and may be coming her way. Fortunately, her niece is out of town visiting friends, and when Collins shows up, she is left with no choice but to call the police. Collins is recaptured, but what does she tell her niece?

Lorca loses his gun in a poker game at which point the same local returns with a sheriff's poster: Lorca is a wanted man with a $5000 reward on his head. Seeing no way out, Lorca auctions himself to the highest bidder, offering to turn himself in without a fuss. His plan is to spend the money and have a good time before he meets the hangman. Turns out he killed the saloon girl's husband some time ago and she has something else in mind. But is Lorca really who he says he is?

Description: Larry Chetnick and his girlfriend Angie are always bickering about money. She wants more of it and he assures her that he has plans to get a job with a better future. Bregornick does offer him a job and tells Larry to come to his home that evening, since that's where he conducts most of his business. After several months of doing this, Larry decides that the best way to get money will be to steal it from Bregornick.

She never gets upset or raises her voice and is always accommodating. Over time, Horace comes to distrust her, to the point where he even tries to kill her. He changes his attitude when she tells him of a plot in a murder mystery she is reading and realizes that he may be in trouble. Unfortunately for Horace, he realizes far too late just how much he really loves her.

Description: On her way home from an outing with a friend, Alice Wagner is mugged and has her purse stolen. Looking at mugshots, however, she sees a photo of someone who resembles her son-in-law, Leo. She returns to the police where she learns the man in the mug book is wanted for a variety of theft-related charges. But is it her son-in-law?

Description: In a Las Vegas casino parking lot, William Benson stumbles across a money clip containing $92,000. Benson decides to do the right thing and try to find the owner. He advises the police of what he's found and places an ad in a local paper. The police are already aware of the loss, but the amount lost was reported as $102,000. The owner claims the money and offers Benson and his wife a week's free stay at the hotel he owns. He seems unconcerned about the missing $10,000, so Benson has nothing to worry about. Or does he?


Episode 14 - The changing heart

Description: Looking to have an old pocket watch repaired, Dane Ross stops in at Ulrich Klemm's shop. He's amazed by the old man's tales of the special clocks he has built over the years with moving parts such as marching soldiers and flying birds. They strike up a friendship and Dane is asked to stay for dinner which he gladly accepts, especially after he meets Ulrich's pretty granddaughter, Lisa. Over time, Dane and Lisa fall in love but theirs is a secret romance as Lisa says she can never leave as long as her grandfather is alive. Dane has to relocate to another city and after a three month absence, visits the old man's shop only to find him dead. Only then does he realize the extent of the secret the Klemms shared.

The lady from whom they bought the house and who babysits from time to time finds a solution for them in the form of Judy, a 9 year old girl who also needs a playmate. A solution that pleases everyone, even if the girl's parents don't quite realize what has happened.

Meade now wants money from the Birdwells and threatens to sue to get her daughter back. A private detective suggests that Mrs. Meade just take her daughter and demand $25,000 from the Birdwells to give her back. She agrees but things don't quite go as the planned.

Description: Billy Weaver has just relocated to a small English village to take up a new appointment. He is perplexed however when she later mentions that two other gentlemen are also staying in the house. He has never seen nor heard of them before, so just who are these two men?

Episode 20 - The day of the bullet

Description: Iggy Kovacs, a Brooklyn hoodlum is gunned down and his childhood friend remembers the day, 35 years before, that had a profound impact on Iggy and set his future course in life. Iggy and his pal see the local gangster, Mr. Rose, beat up someone. They try to report it to the police but no one, including Iggy's father, seems to have the courage to take on the local gangster.


Episode 21 - Hitch hike

Description: Anne has just been acquitted in court and her uncle, Charles Underhill is not a happy man. He feels that her brush with the law will reflect badly on him and is of the view that the only reason she got off was because of his reputation as an upstanding citizen. Underhill doesn't think much of young people, questioning their constant attempt at rebellion. On the way home he has a problem with his car and is assisted by a teenager, Len, who then asks for a ride to the next town. Len is constantly talking about reform school and his "friend" who is good with a knife. Underhill becomes alarmed and purposely speeds in order to be stopped by the police. He tries to explain to the officer that Len is threatening, but there is no evidence to support that claim. He does however get a summons for court and is now really worried about his reputation. Len however presents him with an easy solution to his problem that tests his moral resolve and his self-righteous attitude.


Episode 22 - Across the threshold

Description: Sofie Winter hires mediums in an attempt to contact her late husband, who died six years previously. Her son Hubert, who feels somewhat overwhelmed by his doting mother, decides to ask his actress-girlfriend to impersonate a medium and she convinces Sofie that her husband misses her and the time has come for her to join him. Sofie meticulously plans her departure and on what is intended to be her final evening, lets her son in on the final elements of her plan.

Description: Thomas Craig is feeling pretty good about himself. His rich uncle has just died and knowing that he is the only living relative, expects to inherit the family fortune. He's thrown for a loop however, when his uncle leaves everything to his pet dog for the balance of its lifetime, with the inheritance going to Thomas only after the dog's passing. Thomas' gold-digging girlfriend, Judy, decides its time to speed up the dog's demise, with humorous consequences. Visiting a psychiatrist, she comes to the conclusion that there is only one way in the current circumstances for a girl to nab a millionaire.


Episode 24 - Madame mystery

Description: Steven is working on his novel when into his apartment walks an attractive woman, soaking wet. She's with Steven's neighbour, Jimmy Dolan, who's a bit of a playboy. Jimmy is a PR man for a major studio but has only limited talent so he needs Steven's help to write material about Betsy Blake, a long-time Hollywood star who recently drowned and who has a major movie being released. Steven's work gets Jimmy a big raise from the studio and ensures Betsy's last movie will be a big hit. But it turns out Betty hasn't drowned. What's a PR man to do?


Episode 25 - The little man who was there

Description: Jamie and Ben McMahon have brought a civilized attitude to a rough and tumble mining town. One day, in walks the Little Man, a strange little fellow who challenges the McMahons and says that his powers are far greater than theirs. To the shock of everyone present, he proves his point and the local folk think they are dealing with the devil incarnate. There is however, far more to this than meets the eye.


Episode 26 - Mother, may I go out to swim?

Description: John Crane is attending a coroner's inquiry and remembers the events that brought him there. John lives with his mother Claire and they are obviously very close. While on holiday, he meets Lottie and falls in love for the first time in his life. When his mother visits, it's obvious she and Lottie do not like one another. Lottie suggest that they take Claire up to the waterfalls to enjoy the view. He knows exactly what Lottie has in mind and resolves the situation. He awaits the decision of the coroner's jury.


Episode 27 - The cuckoo clock

Description: Mrs. Blythe goes to spend a weekend at her cottage. She hasn't been there since her husband died the year before. Stopping at the general store, she's told that a patient has escaped from the local mental institution. Once at her cottage, she meets Madeleine who says she had seen a dangerous looking man nearby. Madeleine is obviously upset and wants to leave, but Mrs. Blythe begs her to stay. She agrees, but with dire consequences.


Episode 28 - Forty detectives later

Description: A private detective, William Tyre, is the 41st detective hired by Mr. Dean to find his wife's murderer. Only Dean now says he's found his wife's murderer, a bookstore owner named Otto, and all he wants is for Tyre to arrange for the two to meet. In reality, Dean wants Tyre to kill Otto, but Tyre declines and arranges only for the two to meet. Turns out there is a relationship between Otto and Dean, but it's not quite as expected.

Description: Sir Richard Musgrave is traveling by ship to South Africa. He is a wealthy entrepreneur who made his fortune in Africa. On board ship, he notices an individual that he recognizes as Jan Vander Klaue a one time partner against whom he had committed a terrible act. The gentleman is quite genial, denies knowing Musgrave and denies being Vander Klaue. Musgrave however is overwhelmed with guilt and takes to keeping to his cabin and drinking heavily. In despair, he eventually jumps overboard and the man he thought was Vander Klaue jumps in after him, but for what purpose?


Episode 30 - Insomnia

Description: Charles Cavender suffers from terrible insomnia. He hasn't had a good night's sleep in months and has lost a number of jobs as a result. He visits a psychiatrist and recounts a recurring dream he has about the death of his wife, who died in a house fire. Cavender's brother-in-law, Jack Fletcher, blames him for his sister's death and it's determined there is link between that and the insomnia. Cavender feels threatened but decides to pay him a visit to clear the air. However, things don't quite go as planned.


Episode 31 - I can take care of myself

Description: Bert Haber is an old time piano player and he and Georgia, who sings, have proven to be a very popular nightclub act. Problems arise when a gangster, 'Little Dandy' Dorf, takes a liking to Georgia but she wants no part of him and pours a drink over his head. Soon after, Bert is threatened when someone suggests he get an insurance policy. Things come to a head a few weeks later when Bert is approached by a police officer who has information and suggest that he is in need of protection. Bert doesn't quite realize who he needs protection from, however.


Episode 32 - One grave too many

Description: Joe Helmer is having serious financial problems. He's been out of work for some time and his unemployment insurance has run out. Walking home after unsuccessfully trying to get a loan, he comes across a well-to-do gent, apparently dead on the sidewalk. Joe takes the man's wallet and flees. It's only when he gets home that he finds a revealing note in the man's wallet.


Episode 33 - Party line

Description: Helen Parch shares a party line telephone with several others. She likes to talk on the phone quite a bit but also listens in on others. She's warned by the police one day that a Mr. Miller, with whom she once shared the party line, has broken out of prison and that her life may be in danger. Years before, Miller needed to contact a doctor when his wife was ill and Helen refused to get off the line. Miller's wife died and he turned to a life of crime. Now he may be after Helen.


Episode 34 - Cell 227

Description: While most of his fellow prisoners on death row spend their time hoping for a stay of execution, the occupant of Cell 227 waxes philosophical about the role of the prison system and the difference between a person murdering another and the State murdering someone. The professor says he's innocent and has told his lawyer not to pursue a stay of execution as he will only accept a full pardon. When the time of his execution arrives, he attacks a guard he's taken a dislike to, just as the Warden arrives with interesting news.


Episode 35 - The Schartz-Metterklume method

Description: Charlotte Hope arrives in the Wellington household to act as a governess to four children. She is a somewhat brash, opinionated person who boldly announces that she uses the Shartz-Metterklume method for teaching children. Her first day is dedicated to biology and the children spend the day collecting specimens. The parents are a bit more concerned when they start asking questions of a more delicate nature. After a few days of this, Miss Hope is released from her employment. As she arrives at the train station, someone disembarks asking if a Mrs. Wellington is there to meet her.


Episode 36 - Letter of credit

Description: Henry Taylor visits the town of Kirkland where 3 years before a bank employee, Arnold Mathias, had been convicted of stealing $200,000 from the bank where he worked. None of the money has been found and Mathias always maintained his innocence. It would appear that Mathias had recently been killed in an attempted prison escape and Taylor visits the bank manager telling him he's an author researching a book on the robbery. It turns out that Taylor is after something altogether different and all is not altogether what it seems.


Episode 37 - Escape to Sonoita

Description: Bill and Andy Davis are driving an old tanker truck across the desert when, 85 miles from their destination, they truck develops engine problems. A passing car gets stuck in the sand and it turns out the occupants have kidnapped a young woman in Phoenix and are on the run with the $100,000 ransom they've collected. They decide to take the truck to continue their escape but fight over the limited water available. One kidnapper shoots the other, but he eventually dies of thirst. Turns out he was much closer to water than he thought.


Episode 38 - Hooked

Description: Ray Marchand is married to an older woman but he is quite attracted to Nyla Foster, a very attractive college student spending the summer working at her father's fishing camp. She tells Ray that her father would never leave her alone with him - so he should stop by on Mondays, when her father goes into town for supplies. When Nyla hears that Ray's wife can't swim, they start thinking that an "accident" might be in order, so Ray decides to take up fishing, his wife's favourite pastime. His plans don't quite work out, however.
