Description: Jack Early is a photographer who will stop at nothing to climb his way to the very top of the success ladder. He wins a big newspaper assignment by romancing his lady boss, and it's not long before he's made a name for himself by charming a notorious crime boss, Nick Palmer, into allowing himself to be photographed. Palmer takes him under his wing, but Early decides to bite the hand that feeds him and sets Palmer and another crime boss, Colton, against one another.

Description: While fighting in Libya during World War 2 Sergeant Joe Gunn (Humphrey Bogart) and his M3 Lee tank lovingly referred to as Lulabelle are attached to the British Eighth Army. A retreat order comes through and Joe and his crew, Waco (Bruce Bennet), and Jimmy Doyle (Dan Duryea) are separated from their division and travel across the desert hoping to avoid Rommel's troops when they meet a rag tag group of British soldiers at a field hospital unaware of the retreat. In desperate need of water Joe and his added passengers head toward the site of ancient Roman ruins which holds a watering hole many miles in the distance. Along the way they rescue an Italian soldier who goes by the name Giuseppe (J. Carrol Naish) and a Sudanese soldier and are attacked by a German plane. They shoot down the plane and take the pilot prisoner and learn from him that there are thousands of German soldiers needing water who are travelling toward the well at the ruins where Gunn and his crew is heading. When Gunn arrives at the watering hole the flow of water is very slow and they work diligently to get enough for themselves. Wanting to slow down the incoming Germans from rejoining the war, Gunn sends Waco out across the desert to retrieve the American army nearby for assistance, but the question is whether the desert may prove to be too much.

Description: Mildred Pierce dotes on her daughters while husband Bert looks to Maggie Binderhof for affection. They soon divorce, leaving Mildred to raise the girls on her own. Elder daughter Veda goads her mother about their lack of money and in response Mildred proposes opening a small restaurant. Realtor Wally Fay advises her while making numerous rebuffed passes and introduces her to Monte Baragon whose property becomes the first of a chain of restaurants. Mildred has an affair with Monte. Meanwhile, money-hungry Veda pretends to be pregnant by wealthy Ted Forrester in order to bilk his family of $10,000. Mildred tears up the check, is slapped by Veda, and orders her daughter to leave. After time away, Mildred returns to find Veda singing in a cheap club. Veda will return only if Mildred promises luxury, so Mildred agrees to marry Monte in exchange for a third of her businesses. It soon becomes clear that something is going on between Veda and Monte. Mildred learns of this only after Monte has sold out his third of the her business leaving her bankrupt. She goes to Monte's beach house to kill him... Shots ring out, but what really happened?

Description: Fred C. Description: Bogart plays a man convicted of murdering his wife who escapes from prison in order to prove his innocence. Bogart finds that his features are too well known, and is forced to seek some illicit backroom plastic surgery. The entire pre-knife part of the film is shot from a Bogart's-eye-view, with us seeing the fugitive for the first time as he starts to recuperate from the operation in the apartment of a sympathetic young artist (played by Bacall) for whom he soon finds affection. But what he's really after is revenge.

* Hold Your Breath and Cross Your Fingers featurette - featuring film historians Leonard Maltin and Robert Osborne, and Bogart biographer Eric Lax, at just over 10 minutes, the short film briefly chronicles Bacall's arrival in Hollywood under the aegis of director Howard Hawks and her subsequent struggle to find suitable parts at Warner Bros. We also learn about Bogart's interest in The Dark Road, the David Goodis book upon which Dark Passage is based, and how he and producer Jerry Wald needed to convince a reluctant Jack Warner to buy the "bleak" property. Examinations of the lives of Goodis and director-writer Delmer Daves are also included, as well as a discussion of the film's location shooting and innovative technique. Especially fascinating is a look at the involvement of Bogart and Bacall in The Committee for the First Amendment, a group of Hollywood activists that traveled to Washington in 1947 to lend support to the writers and actors harassed by the House Un-American Activities Committee. Despite the best intentions, Bogart himself became ensnared in political intrigue, and the fallout haunted him for the rest of his life.

* Slick Hare - Bugs Bunny cartoon featuring an animated Bogart as a demanding nightclub customer who threatens to gun down waiter Elmer Fudd if he's not served a dish of fried rabbit in 20 minutes. Fudd frantically searches the kitchen until he happens upon that "wascally wabbit" Bugs munching carrots in a corner. Typical antics ensue, with hilarious depictions of other famous restaurant guests, including Frank Sinatra, Ray Milland, the Marx Brothers, Sydney Greenstreet and Carmen Miranda.

* Trailer - a beautifully restored original trailer shamelessly misleads viewers by playing up the Bogart-Bacall romantic angle in Dark Passage and ignoring the more potent and predominate murder mystery. The trailer opens with a theater usher referencing the duo's previous pictures, lulling the audience into the lie that Dark Passage will be a carbon copy — hard evidence of the studio's nervousness over the film's risky style and somber story.
