Description: In the wee small hours of a Monday morning in New York City, a disparate group of 16, most traveling in pairs and trying to make their way home after a night out, are on the same subway car. Most are facing some issues, and their homeward journey is just a continuation of the problem that each faces in his, her, or their day-to-day life. Their tense quiet is shattered when Joe Ferrone and Artie Connors board the same car. Joe and Artie are a couple of menacing punks who just want to cause trouble for their own amusement; they've already violently mugged a man earlier in the evening for a mere $8. While Joe and Artie block the doors to prevent anyone from entering or exiting at any station, all the others on board who are lucid enough want to escape; the others passively watch the proceedings as Joe and Artie systematically direct their menace at each of the 16, one by one. What their terrorizing actions are able to do before the incident reaches its end is to bring to the surface the problems the passengers are facing in their lives.

Description: In 1912, the notorious and violent prisoner Robert Franklin Stroud is transferred to the Leavenworth Prison convicted for murdering a man. When a guard cancels the visit of his mother, Elizabeth Stroud, due to a violation of the internal rules, he stabs and kills the guard and goes to trial three times. He is sentenced to be executed by the gallows, but his mother appeals to President Woodrow Wilson who commutes his sentence to life imprisonment. However, the warden, Harvey Shoemaker, decides to keep Stroud in solitary for the rest of his life. One day, Stroud finds a sparrow that has fallen from the nest in the yard and he raises the bird until it is strong enough to fly. Stroud finds a motivation for his life raising and caring for birds and becomes an expert in birds. He marries Stella Johnson and together they run a business, providing medicine developed by Stroud. But a few years after, Stroud is transferred to Alcatraz and has to leave his birds behind...

Description: In New York, the interior decorator Jan Morrow and the wolf composer Brad Allen share a party line, but Brad keeps it busy most of the time flirting with his girlfriends. Description: Roslyn Taber, the type of woman who turns heads easily, recently came to Reno to get a quickie divorce, she having no idea what to do with her life after that. She cannot tolerate seeing animal suffering, let alone human suffering. Coinciding with getting the divorce, Roslyn meets friends Gay Langland and Guido, a divorced aging grizzled cowboy and a widowed mechanic respectively. Gay and Roslyn move into the under construction farmhouse owned by Guido, which he was building for his wife before she died.

Description: On a crowded subway, Skip McCoy picks the purse of Candy. Among his take, although he does not know it at the time, is a piece of top-secret microfilm that was being passed by Candy's consort, a Communist agent. Candy discovers the whereabouts of the film through Moe Williams, a police informer. She attempts to seduce McCoy to recover the film. She fails to get back the film and falls in love with him. The desperate agent exterminates Moe and savagely beats Candy. McCoy, now goaded into action, confronts the agent in a particularly brutal fight in a subway.
