Description: John Books, an aging gunfighter, goes to see a doctor for a second opinion after another doctor told him he has a cancer which is terminal. The doctor confirms what the other said. He says Books has a month, maybe two left. He takes a room in the boarding house and the son of the woman who runs it recognizes him and tells his mother who he is. She doesn't like his kind but when he tells her of his condition, she empathizes. Her son wants him to teach him how to use a gun. Books tries to tell him that killing is not something he wants to live with. Soon, however, he hits upon another plan, one befitting his career and involving more dignity and less suffering.

Description: While traveling to San Francisco, the drifter Eric Stanton is thrown off a bus late night in Walton for not having enough money for the ticket. He wanders to the "Pop's Eats" diner, where he meets the sexy waitress Stella, an easy woman who usually dates clients after-hours. Eric has a crush on her but Stella tells him that he doesn't have enough money to make her happy. Eric decides to seduce the lonely June Mills, a wealthy woman living with her controlling sister, Clara, in order to get more money and so end up with Stella. Eric goes to San Francisco with June and Clara, and marries June. They return to Walton and on their wedding night, Eric sneaks out in the hopes of meeting up with Stella but she already has a date for the night. The next morning, Stella is found murdered and the brutal investigator Mark Judd is assigned to the case. When Eric becomes the prime-suspect, he investigates the murder seeking the identity of the real killer.

Description: Senator Ranse Stoddard returns to the city of Shinbone in the Wild West, to go to the funeral of his friend, Tom Doniphon. To a journalist, who's wondering what the senator is doing in Shinbone, he tells how his career started as the man who shot Liberty Valance. As a lawyer he came to Shinbone to bring law and order to the west by means of law books. When the stagecoach is held up by outlaws, he is savagely beaten by Liberty Valance.
